The remaining Scottish-managed tanker impounded by Iran has been allowed to set sail, according to reports this morning.
The Stena Impero, registered in London but managed by Northern Marine in Clydebank, was seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards along with the Mesdar on July 19. Mesdar, Liberian-flagged and operated by Glasgow firm Norbulk Shipping UK, has since been released.
This morning Refinitiv ship tracking data suggested it had left Bandar Abbas port and was at sea. There have been no reports about the wellbeing of the crew, who are of various nationalities.
Stena Bulk president and CEO Erik Hanell said: "The ship is on the move. We will comment further when the ship reaches international waters."
The Stena Impero was travelling between India and Saudi Arabia when it was detained in the Strait of Hormuz, in apparent retaliation for the seizing of an Iranian tanker by Britain near Gibraltar.
