Clydebank burns victim dies in hospital after injuries from 'corrosive substance'

A Clydebank man left with horrific burns due to what is thought to be a 'corrosive substance' has died in hospital.

Michael McElhinney, 26, suffered the severe injuries in an alleged attack earlier in the week, the Daily Record reports.

His family say the incident happened within a high rise property in Dunswin Court, Clydebank on Friday, June 4.

Although Michael was undergoing surgery for his severe injuries and was placed in an induced coma, Police Scotland have confirmed that Michael died on Friday..

Police say they found Michael already injured at the property on Friday June 4.

Emergency services attended and a man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment with serious injuries.

Enquiries are still ongoing to find out the circumstances surrounding his injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquires are ongoing following the report of a 26-year-old man found injured at a property in Dunswin Court in Clydebank around 7.20pm on Friday, 4 June, 2021.

“The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he died on Friday, 11 June."
