Clyde Valley Blackhawks face crunch American football play-off

Lanarkshire American football side Clyde Valley Blackhawks are looking to raise as big a crowd as they can as they play their biggest game in four years against Leeds Bobcats on Sunday.

The Blackhawks are taking part in their first British American Football Association National League (BAFANL) play-off quarter-final since 2015 at Beltane Park in Wishaw, and entry is free.

Guys from across Lanarkshire play for the Blackhawks, who are trying to play their way into the semi-finals.

After winning their division in the first season under new head coach David Yates, Clyde Valley secured home field advantage in the quarter-finals, en-route to BritBowl 33.

The Blackhawks arrived at this point through victories over every team they've played, beating Dumfries Hunters, Inverclyde Goliaths, Darlington Steam and Carlisle Sentinels.

Their season started well with six wins on the bounce, going into their seventh win of the season against Dumfries, where they tied 6-6 before losing 14-12 to Inverclyde at home in the last game of the regular season.

Clyde Valley will be looking to bounce back from that defeat, but it won't be easy against an established Leeds team, who are making the 400-mile round trip to play them.

Leeds have an impressive 6-2 record, with their only two defeats coming against eventual division winners Halton Spartans, and a potent offense averaged 32 points per game.

A Blackhawks spokesperson said: "Play-off time is where things get serious and tensions are heightened, knowing that a loss could end the dream of making it deep into the post-season.

"The Blackhawks will be looking to draw a big crowd to help them push into the semi-finals, and feed off the energy of their supporters, which is a crucial part of playing at home in these games."

The game is free to attend, and kick-off is at 2pm.
