Clyde star Goodwillie reflects on Scotland moment against Barcelona legend 10 years on

Clyde striker David Goodwillie says he didn't fully appreciate his 2011 goal for Scotland against Spain at the time - but it's something he looks back on fondly now.

Goodwillie beat Barcelona legend Victor Valdes from the penalty spot as Scotland lost 3-1 to the then-reigning European and world champions.

The striker, 32, made three appearances for Scotland and Monday will mark 10 years since his goal in Alicante.

“I probably took my career a bit for granted at that point," the Clyde captain told the club's website. "I didn’t really think too much about it at the time and assumed it was just a normal thing for me.

"I always thought in my mind there would be more but unfortunately for me there wasn’t, but when I look back now I can always tell my kids and grandkids I scored against the European and world champions.

"And they’ll probably turn round and say 'calm down, it was only a penalty!'”

Goodwillie's Clyde have started the season with three wins from nine League One matches, currently sat eighth in the table.

“I think it’s pretty obvious we’ve been a bit hot and cold so far and we just need to find that level of consistency, where hopefully we can win a couple of games in a row," added Goodwillie.

"All the boys and the manager are feeling it; we can get a great result one week then the next minute we’re really flat.

"We just need to get some consistency in our game and that will be our goal in the next part of the season.”
