Clyde sign former St Mirren defender Mark Docherty

Clyde have announced the signing of experienced defender Mark Docherty.

The 33 year-old is the Bully Wee's second addition of a busy day after former Dundee United midfielder Morgaro Gomis was announced earlier this afternoon.

After starting his career at St Mirren, Docherty has enjoyed a successful career in the lower leagues including winning back-to-back promotions with Alloa Athletic in 2012 and 2013.

The versatile defender, with over 450 appearances in his professional career, can also play in midfield and he spent the last 18 months at League Two side Annan Athletic.

Clyde boss Danny Lennon told the club's official website: ""We are also delighted to add Mark Docherty to our playing staff for the coming season.

"I have worked with Mark before and know full well the character and qualities he will bring to this wonderful club. He can play both as a left back and as a defensive midfielder.

"His delivery into the box, both from set plays and open play has contributed to a high number of goal assists throughout his career.

"He has played the vast majority of his football at League One and Championship level, and we will benefit from that experience in the season ahead.

"Having had only two players in contract at the end of the season, we have been preparing for a major squad rebuild for the campaign ahead.

"We have reviewed our performance throughout the season and identified what we need to do in the squad rebuild to continue to move the club up the leagues.

"Right now, this process is more than a full-time job. It’s an all day, every day job, filled with an endless procession of phone calls, emails, texts, face to face meetings and paperwork. It is an intense, demanding and highly competitive process.

"Please rest assured our staff and network of contacts are providing their best efforts to acquire the right squad to take the club forward, within the budget available."
