Clyde boss makes fan support plea after Bully Wee hit for five

Danny Lennon says he takes full responsibility for Clyde’s 5-0 thrashing at home to Montrose, but asked fans to lay off his players.

The Bully Wee boss ended up clashing with a fan at Broadwood amid shouts from the stands aimed at his struggling squad.

Clyde were 2-0 down after just five minutes after goals from Lewis Milne and a Conrad Balatoni own goal. It only got worse in 26 minutes when Cammy Ballantye struck. In the second half Milne completed his brace and Craig Johnston hit the fifth in 81 minutes.

It leaves Clyde second from bottom in League One and Lennon said: “I take full responsibility. I’ve tried to put square pegs in round holes.

“Regardless of that, the goals and the start we gave ourselves was poor.

“Within five minutes we are 2-0 nothing down and it makes it a very difficult task against a very good side.

“There is a lot of reflection to be done after this and look at what went horribly wrong. There’s no excuses for that level of performance.

“I could hear the fans’ frustration and I can totally understand it, because I’m a fan myself. But one or two of the shouts – when we are already hurting – players don’t need to be hearing that.

“If you’ve got to vent, yeah vent, but all I was saying to one of the gentlemen that was shouting was: I’ll give you five minutes or my time after the game. Vent your frustration at me because the buck stops with me; it’s me that brought the players to the club.’

“That was my message. I totally understand the frustration but let’s vent it in the right manner.”

Clyde now travel to Cove on Saturday.
