Clyde boss happy with cup win but says young side must cope with pressure

Clyde boss Danny Lennon was pleased with his side's performance in the 3-2 win over Dumbarton, but said the Bully Wee must learn to cope with pressure.

Dumbarton gave their hosts some cause for concern during the second half after Clyde had taken a 3-1 lead into the interval, but Lennon said he was pleased overalll.

He said: "I thought the first half performance was excellent, in and out of possession of the ball.

"I thought we asked a lot of questions of Dumbarton, played through them, played around them, and whatever they put in front of us we found solutions. That's good intelligent play and shows the hard work that the players and staff have put in over the close season.

"As you would expect from an experienced coach and players at Dumbarton, they're going to counter-act something in the second half. They've proven that year on year in League One.

"I thought they locked onto us a lot better, and didn't let us have it all our own way.

"That's something we have to learn how to cope with, to be perfectly honest, we've got to welcome that pressure and be brave enough to continue to do the right thing.

"That's why they're here; they're hand-picked to fit into a style of football that I believe they can play, and I know you're going to get picked off every now and again with that brand of football, but it's a brand of football that I believe gets you more success than failure."

While Clyde didn't manage to make the win more convincing, Lennon says he was pleased with aspects of their play.

"I thought some of the football was breathtaking, even in the second half on one or two occasions," he said. "There wasn't an end product to go with it, but I thought there were better moves in certain areas when I thought we deserved a wee bit more, and we have to take greater care with the final ball.

"Overall it was a good performance. I was disappointed with the goals we lost, but I said a few weeks ago that I was looking forward to seeing the team when we lose a couple of goals, and I thought we found a solution and saw the game out comfortably in the end.

"It was a pleasing start, a winning start, but it's a wee bit surreal without the fans. That was a big part that was missing for me today, it will always be about them."
