Clyde boss hails Bully Wee character after Dumbarton draw in 'very difficult' conditions

Clyde boss Danny Lennon says his side finally rediscovered themselves during a 1-1 draw with Dumbarton.

Treacherous conditions threatened the game at The Rock on Saturday, but a late goal looked to have dampened the Bully Wee’s day further when Eoghan Stokes netted in the final minute for Dumbarton.

But captain David Goodwillie netted in stoppage time to end a run of four consecutive defeats for Clyde. They sit ninth in the League One table but basement club East Fife are just one point behind.

Lennon told the club’s in-house media: “That’s the character I know. That’s what we have spoken about. I spoke recently about how I didn’t recognise our identity - this is our identity with the character and fight we showed.

“At times, the conditions were very difficult. We played some good football and to concede late in the game, the 90th minute, and show that character is just fantastic.

“That’s more of the identity and players that I associate with this football club. I think both sets of players deserve an enormous amount of credit for this game. When you were out in that and walking over the pitch, the conditions were very difficult.

“I need to give both sets of players credit for the football they tried to play. Football is very much an emotional game. Again we concede from a corner kick.

“We lose the second phase of it and it’s very disappointing. We will continue to work hard on it, and we will do that. For this and where we have been in the last month, we have got something for our efforts.

“It’s a point, but it’s something to build upon. It stops that wee rut that we had found ourselves in and we have got to continue to work as there is a lot of hard work ahead and lots of football still to be played.”

Lennon also hailed supporters for their attendance on a wet afternoon: “The fans were absolutely terrific and they showed what the game means to them. They turned out in great numbers in what were very difficult conditions.”
