Clyde boss Danny Lennon: 'There's a big part missing,' in season without fans

Clyde boss Danny Lennon says the biggest part of football has been missing for over a year with lack of fans, and admits he can't wait to see the end of this season.

The Bully Wee boss hopes supporters will be allowed back in by the time the next campaign rolls around, and is eager to see if people are able to watch the European Championships at Hampden this summer.

Lennon hopes the progress the government is making with the vaccine roll-out means life can return to some kind of normality soon.

And although he's pleased that fixtures have been issued for the next two weeks - Clyde host East Fife on Saturday and are at Montrose seven days later - he says it just isn't the same.

Lennon said: "It has been a real challenge, and it's like anything. I remember at the first lockdown we were all excited and looking forward to getting back to training, which happened, but then you get a couple of weeks of that.

"The games come in and you're excited to go and play them, but once you're into that wee bit there's something terribly missing there.

"It's the most important people involved in any football club, that's the supporters, and it will be very much the same.

"There's a big part missing there and I can't wait to see the back of this season, in terms of the pandemic, that everybody's vaccinated, and once they really get on top of this, I hope that society gets back to normality and we get back to the beautiful game in all its glory.

"I can't wait until that's in full bloom again, there has been a big part missing of the fans, no doubt about it."

Lennon added: "The way we're going just now we're making good progress, and everybody is doing their utmost to get through this, by the calculations and rolling out this vaccine.

"It seems that they're on course to have everybody done by a certain date and I'm just hoping that comes in time for the new campaign to begin and that we get fans back into the game.

"I'm hoping that by the European Championships, that we've got fans in Hampden Park come then, and we can watch a major tournament that we haven't seen in many years."
