Clyde boss Danny Lennon says a 'bit of magic' earned precious three points

Clyde boss Danny Lennon says a "bit of magic" and a "velvet touch" earned his side a valuable three points against Peterhead last night.

Second-half goals by Craig Howie and Ross Cunningham gave the Bully Wee a 2-0 win over Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium, and with Forfar drawing 2-2 at Partick Thistle that moved Clyde three points above the basement side, and up one place to eighth in League One.

Clyde have game in hand over ninth-placed Dumbarton and two over Forfar, as they head into a clash with East Fife at Bayview on Thursday.

Lennon was pleased with his night's work and said: "We're delighted, first and foremost with the three points.

"We've seen two great quality goals tonight, there's no doubt about that.

"The delivery that comes in from the free kick, the way that big Craig Howie has taken that on his chest and the finish - that's a hell of a goal. It was very pleasing and something to build on.

"Then we got another bit of magic, a great diagonal from wee Ally Love, and it's an absolutely lovely touch, a velvet touch, from Ross Cunningham, and a great finish, so I'm very pleased, and with a clean sheet to go on the back of that.

"It just ticks off another difficult venue and another trip on the road for us, so we're getting close to the end of this week.

"We'll now dust ourselves down, regroup, assess the situation, see if there are any casualties, and get ready to go again for another difficult venue away on Thursday evening.

"But I'm very pleased with the night's work."

Lennon brought Howie on for Jack Thomson at the interval, and says a few tweaks helped his side overcome Peterhead.

He told the club's website: "It has always been a very difficult venue to come to, and it was a great night for it, a good footballing night, and you've got to give Peterhead a lot of credit.

"I thought they moved the ball very well, they had a lot of possession in the first half without really carving us open at all.

"I thought the shape was good, in terms of that, then just before half-time we made a little tweak in the change and a change at half-time with personnel, and it looked better.

"I had felt like they had been coming down the outside of us with their expansive football and wee Si (Ferry) causing us a wee bit of a problem, and just withdrawing one meant we were able to counteract that a bit better and deny space, and cause less running for ourselves.

"What we had to do, and what we spoke a lot about at half-time was being calm, and when you did get the turn-over, it was important that we made better decisions with the ball, we relaxed on it.

"I felt we were very panicky on the ball in terms of the first half - perhaps that was the tempo that Peterhead were playing, and then we got a wee bit of the ball back they were pressing us very quickly and aggressively, so I've got to give them a wee bit of credit for that, but as I said, I didn't feel they harmed us, in terms of peppering our goal."

Clyde were missing talisman David Goodwillie for the trip to Peterhead, and Lennon hinted that he's unlikely to travel to Methil on Thursday either, as he eyes a Scottish Cup third round tie at Championship side Ayr United.

Lennon said: "Unfortunately David, and the character that he is, he's been carrying a little knock for a couple of weeks now.

"It's fine when he gets going, but Saturday there and the volume of the games coming up, it has taken him a little bit longer to recover from that, so we'll assess that situation and whether we've got his availability for Saturday.

"He's an experienced pro, he knows his own body well and what he can get through, and that's something that David does very well.

"He goes through a great deal, in terms of going and giving his all, and if he feels that he can get through, that's a decision that he will make.

"But that is all about the one that were here and the ones that contributed."
