Clyde boss Danny Lennon pleased to progress into third round of Scottish Cup

Clyde boss Danny Lennon was delighted to progress into the third round of the Scottish Cup after a 2-0 win over Keith.

The Bully Wee made the long trip north to face the Highland League side and they produced a professional performance.

On a night of major shocks, goals from David Goodwillie and Scott Rumsby set up an away trip to face Ayr United in the third round.

“It’s job done and it’s obviously nice to get into the next round of the cup,” Lennon said. “It’s a difficult place to come in terms of not knowing too much about them but you have to give them respect.

“At times we had to deal with the wind, the pitch was cutting up as the game went on but overall, I felt we handled the majority of the game well - particularly the first half.

“I thought the shape was good, we had a lot of good opportunities and the disappointment of the night is that we squandered quite a few."

Clyde missed a host of chances to strengthen their advantage in the second half including an open goal miss by captain Goodwillie.

Jack Thomson and Ross Cunningham also had chances but Lennon conceded the conditions played a factor in their attacking output.

He said: “I thought there were a lot of good opportunities that never led to a goal and the final ball could have been better again.

“The boys were saying that the pitch was a difficult one and they are playing with a new ball.

"I’m not making big excuses, we are looking to convert more opportunities but what is pleasing was our overall shape in the first half.

Lennon made all three of his allotted substitutions but he was frustrated that the performance levels dropped after those changes.

He said: “I was a bit disappointed when we made changes because I felt that we started to lose our shape and the balance in the team.

“It cost us problems on the opposite side of the pitch and they put in a dangerous ball in. Those are the things that can make it a nervous five or ten minute finish.”
