Clyde boss Danny Lennon 'off to a flier' with signings and says homework pays off

Clyde boss Danny Lennon says he got off to a flier in the summer transfer market, because he did his homework back in January.

The Bully Wee boss brought in eight players early on in defender Steven Thicot, Andy Rodden and Ross Lyon, midfielders Ray Grant, Kurtis Roberts and Liam Scullion, winger Conner Duthie and striker Jordan Allan.

Goalkeeper Josh Bradley-Hurst and midfielders Ross Cunningham and Morgaro Gomis also secured their futures to the club for another season.

Lennon says there is a lot of experience in there, and hopes to utilise that in next season’s League One.

He said: “We started our work not just in the summer there, but away back in January-February.

“We got off to a flier, and we seemed to get everybody that we had targeted.

“We’ve brought in good experienced individuals, guys who, as well as being a good age, have had a lot of experience at a good level, particularly in our league.

Midfielder Kurtis Roberts has been brought in from Stirling Albion, adding experience (Stirling Observer)

“We have that, along with a blend of youth, and that’s something you try and mix together, and hope you get the chemistry right.

“That’s going to take a bit of time, but the early signs in pre-season are good.

“We’re certainly not finished, in terms of recruitment, but what we are having to do now – like many other part-time clubs – is be patient.

“There are players who have been looking to stay full-time and maybe it becomes a wee bit more of a reality-check for them as time runs out.

“Not every club can take full-time players.

“Likewise with loan deals, you’ve got clubs out there who are having to keep hold of players during pre-season, because they need them for their own purposes, so that’s why it has gone a wee bit dry.

“We have had a few boys in that we’re looking at, and there are a couple of them who are looking favourable.

“So, hopefully by next week there will be a couple of new additions to the squad.”
