Clyde 3 Falkirk 2: The Bully Wee ease relegation worries with shock Bairns win

Clyde boosted their survival hopes with a much-needed win against Falkirk at Broadwood.

Goals from Mark Lamont and David Goodwillie double earned Danny Lennon's men a valuable three points in the League One relegation scrap.

Charlie Telfer's spot kick and a late Louis Longridge goal were not enough to save the game for the promotion hopefuls as the Cumbernauld club secured their first win in six.

The home side got off to the perfect start as Lamont got between Gregor Buchanan and Paul Dixon, before robbing Dixon on the edge of the box and calmly put the ball in the bottom corner after three minutes.

Some neat work saw Ross Cunningham and David Goodwillie put Chris McStay through one-on-one, but a poor first touch allowed Robbie Mutch to collect after six minutes as the hosts squandered a brilliant chance.

The title-challengers began to come into the game and were causing problems from set-pieces. A corner fell to Aidan Connolly on the edge of the box but has left-footed volley went just over the bar after the 10 minute mark.

Lamont was causing havoc for the Bairns backline as Goodwillie slipped him into the box again, and a jinky run saw the forward unleash a shot which Mutch parried clear after 35 minutes.

Goalkeeper David Mitchell almost handed Falkirk a way back into the game as he fumbled David McMillan's cross to the feet of Conor Sammon after 38 minutes, but Raymond Grant scooped the ball off the line.

It was two as the Bairns goalkeeper Mutch flew into a tackle on Goodwillie and referee David Dickinson pointed to the spot. Clyde's top scorer confidently dinked the ball down the middle.

Dickinson would again be involved as he awarded a penalty as Tom Lang dove in McMillan, and Charlie Telfer neatly put it beyond Mitchell in the bottom corner just before the break.

Mitchell pulled out a brilliant save to tip a Ben Hall header onto the bar after the break with Cunningham on the line to clear the ball off the line after 47 minutes.

The Bully Wee captain would make it three after 51 minutes. A Lamont shot from range was parried by Mutch, and an Ally Love drive rebounded to the skipper who buried it in the left bottom corner from the edge of the six-yard box.

It was almost four as John Rankin's corner was met by defender Martin McNiff but the bullet header went just over the bar in 80 minutes.

The Bairns were struggling to create chances but co-boss Lee Miller, on as a substitute, brought out a great save from Mitchell as he met a Rafa Da Vita cross from just yards out in 89 minutes.

A long ball from Mutch found Louis Longridge in the box and he managed to pull a goal back in stoppage time by it was the Lanarkshire men who earned maximum points.
