Clyde 0, Airdrie 1: Jamieson penalty wins derby for Airdrie

Lewis Jamieson's late penalty gave Airdrie a precious win and consigned Clyde to an 11th straight defeat in League One.

But despite it being Guy Fawkes' night, there were precious few fireworks inside New Douglas Park as both sides somewhat cancelled each other out.

Both sides tried their best to play entertaining football, but there weren't many sparkling moments on a freezing cold November 5, that neither set of fans will remember long after the final whistle.

However, Jamieson's fifth goal in three games will give the Diamonds a real lift.

The first half was pretty even, with not a great deal happening at either end.

Airdrie dominated possession, but the best they mustered was a Calum Gallagher header that you would expect Neil Parry to save, before the striker blasted over.

Clyde's best chance came through Morgaro Gomis who latched onto a poor pass-back but blasted well over.

He was then booked for a spectacular dive under a 'challenge' from Airdrie player-boss Rhys McCabe.

In the second half Clyde tried to make more of an inroad into the game, but Airdrie grabbed it by the scruff of the neck, earning the crucial penalty following good play by the pacey Jamieson.

Clyde interim manager Allan Moore made three changes to the side that lost 2-1 at Alloa last weekend. In came Erik Sula, Liam Scullion and Morgaro Gomis, for Ross Lyon, Paul Kennedy and Barry Cuddihy.

Probably unsurprisingly, Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe kept faith with the side that thumped Montrose 4-0 last time out.

Clyde created the first chance of the game in five minutes but Kurtis Roberts's shot was well blocked for a corner on the left, after good set-up play by Ross Cunningham.

Airdrie went close five minutes later when, from a free kick, Cammy Ballantyne was sent down the right and picked out Calum Gallagher, but his tame header was comfortably saved by Neil Parry.

A long ball was nodded down by Justin Devenny to Gallagher in 13 minutes and the striker waited before sending a half-volley over the bar from just outside the box.

McCabe played a great cross-field ball to release Callum Smith, but his way to goal was well blocked by Sula in 15 minutes.

Morgaro Gomis should have done better when a short pass-back released him on goal in 21 minutes, but he blasted high and wide of Dean Lyness's goal.

Cunningham did well to force a corner on the right in 28 minutes and but when he swung it in, it was played out to Ray Grant, who blasted well high and wide of the near post.

Airdrie went close again when Smith picked out Lewis Jamieson and he swivelled about 25 yards out, but pulled his low shot wide of the right post.

Nearly everything good that Clyde had created went through Cunningham, and his shot from the left corner of the box was well saved in 52 minutes.

Airdrie went desperately close to taking the lead in 66 minutes but Euan Deveney's deflected shot flew inches wide of the left post.

Captain Callum Fordyce then sent a rising shot just past the top left corner.

Cunningham sent a 25-yard free kick wide of the left post in 72 minutes.

Airdrie took the lead in 78 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a trip on Lewis Jamieson.

The on-loan St Mirren striker stepped up and though his spot-kick was parried, clipped the rebound into the bottom right corner for his fifth goal in three games.
