Clumsy police injure themselves ironing, tying their laces and using drawing pins

Clumsy cops are injuring themselves at an alarming rate – before they’ve even left the nick.

In the past year 220 Met officers and support staff came a cropper – including three hurt ironing their uniforms.

One ex-cop said: “Officers carry out all kinds of acts of bravery unscathed, then get injured doing some everyday task.”

In all, 28 scalded themselves, spilling boiling water, tea or coffee over themselves. Others reported falling down stairs, tumbling off chairs or burning themselves on microwave meals.

One even fell over tying shoelaces.

Two were hurt using drawing pins.

One strained a muscle picking up a laptop and another put their back out putting on their boots.

The bizarre list of injuries was revealed under the Freedom of Information Act. Yesterday the force said 21 claims had been made for injuries in the workplace, with three ending in “nil payment” and one settled.

A spokesman would not  say if injuries led to time off sick or how much was paid in the settled case.

In 2016, a Durham cop won £25,000 after hurting his knee falling over in a corridor at a police station.

Met Police Federation chair Ken Marsh said: “Some of my police officers have to work in 18th century buildings, not fit for police to work in.”
