Jewellery heist goes wrong as robber trips over door and spills loot during getaway

Two clumsy robbers have been caught on camera fumbling their way out of a shopping centre in the Perth suburb of Victoria Park and dropping their loot after raiding a jewellery store. March 2, 2019

Two clumsy robbers have been caught on camera fumbling their way out of a shopping centre in Perth and dropping their loot after raiding a jewellery store.

WA Police have released CCTV footage showing the pair breaking into the Victoria Park shopping centre on Monday night by smashing a glass door, with one of them riding a motorcycle.

The footage does not show the burglars breaking into the jewellery store itself but reveals one of them returning on foot, bag on back and arms full of stolen goods.

But the robber trips over the door frame on the way out, spilling jewellery all over the ground as the motorbike rider follows behind.

The person attempts to recover some of the items from the ground before jumping on the back of the motorbike to make a getaway, with jewellery left strewn on the ground.

Police have appealed for help to find the pair.

"Between 2:20am and 2:30am, two people forced entry into a shopping centre on Albany Highway and once inside forced entry to a jewellery store," police said.

"They stole several items of jewellery and left on a black motorcycle.

"A white utility appeared to be waiting in the car park and left in company with the offenders."

Police have described the first offender as fair skinned with a slim build, wearing blue jeans, a light-coloured hooded jumper, white sneakers with black laces and a red-and-white helmet.

The second offender has been described as having a medium build, wearing a black jacket with a white Nike logo on the front, dark-blue jeans, orange and gold sneakers and a grey-and-white helmet.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
