Clubs urged to 'get eyes on' Bohemians ace Promise Omochere

English and Scottish clubs have been told to 'get eyes on' Bohemians star Promise Omochere.

With Georgie Kelly gone to Rotherham, the young striker is eager to step up and be the leading man at the Gypsies this season.

Kelly - last year’s Premier Division top scorer - even paid tribute to Omochere before he left, claiming he could become the best player in the League of Ireland.

Omochere has had to battle injury problems and has just returned from a controversial suspension.

But Ireland Under-21 boss Jim Crawford feels clubs in the UK should monitor him closely as the season unfolds.

“I’ve already had a couple of phone calls about Promise from clubs in the UK and I said 'look, you certainly have to get eyes on him', because he ticks a hell of a lot of boxes.

“Promise is certainly somebody that has been in our thoughts,” he said. “He had a wonderful pre-season and he was unplayable against Dundalk when I went to see him.”

Omochere didn’t make Crawford’s Under-21 squad this week for the key March 29 qualifier in Sweden - but the door has been left open for the summer internationals.

“It looks like he’s the main target man at Bohemians at the moment and we’ll see what happens there. I’d never say never with Promise,” said the Ireland boss.

“He’s a hell of a talent. He’s a physical presence with good one-touch play, links up with midfielders and can obviously score goals.

“It’s just one of those that we’ll see where he is come the June window if he gets more competitive games.”

Speaking before the FAI Cup back in November, former Bohs hero Kelly was adamant Omochere can have a big future.

Kelly said at the time: “Promise is an unbelievable player, unbelievable ability, he could easily be the best player in the league.

“He's had serious issues with injury and he grew really quickly in the last two or three years, he grew a ridiculous amount, a big difference in height.

“That causes its own complexities, different injuries and niggles but if Promise can get himself right, he's a worry for any defender who comes up against him.”
