Clubs preview: Essencia Present Roni Size Reprazent, Bath

New Forms, the Mercury-snaffling, 1997 album from Reprazent, marked the coming of age of drum'n'bass. It effortlessly gelled jazz, R&B, soul and breaks influences to produce a truly cohesive statement underpinned by the delicious pop melodies on tracks like Brown Paper Bag and Heroes. Even more startling were their live shows, which showed for the first time that the genre could be translated effectively to the stage. Some breathtaking recent outings last year reunited original vocalist Onalee, MC Dynamite and ace bassist Si John, plus new drummer UV Ray to show that, over a decade after New Forms and after dozens of imitators, Reprazent still has a major resonance. Wednesday's show in Bath comes courtesy of the city's only regular drum'n'bass session Essencia, and will be Reprazent's last performances on these shores before a series of Australian festival dates.
