Clubs forced to wait as SPFL league-ending proposals hang in the balance

SPFL proposals to end three of Scotland's professional football leagues remain up in the air.

Scottish football bosses this week asked clubs to vote on whether the Championship, League One and League Two should be ended immediately, with final positions based on an average points-per-game system.

Clubs were given until 5pm today (Friday) to make their feelings known, however as some are yet to do so a decision can't be finalised.

The plans were passed by Ladbrokes Premiership clubs, along with League One and League Two clubs.

The sticking point lies in the Championship as seven votes have been cast in favour of the proposals – with eight required and one club yet to vote.

An SPFL spokesperson said: “It is very important that clubs consider carefully the resolution and we are grateful to those clubs who have voted already.

“With the Ladbrokes Premiership and Ladbrokes Leagues 1 & 2 divisions each having approved the resolution, we await the voting slip from the one Ladbrokes Championship club that has yet to vote. We will provide an update as soon as we are in a position to do so.”

Rangers had been vocal in their opposition to the proposal, even putting forward a counter resolution calling for prize money to be distributed but for the league to remain open.

However the SPFL rejected this earlier today (Friday) following "clear and unequivocal legal advice".

It was widely reported that Celtic were believed to be in favour of the plans, with chief Peter Lawwell previously saying: "Our strong preference is to complete all remaining matches. If they cannot, the responsibility to find a fair and reasonable solution will be with the governing bodies."
