Clubland nightclub in Cookstown could be set for a comeback

The famous Clubland nightclub in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, could be set for a comeback.

A Facebook page was set up on Thursday under the name "Clubland" with the page uploading a photo with the caption "Reborn - 2021"

The page added: "Get ready Cookstown: Something BIG is about to happen" with hundreds of comments from excited fans about the prospect of the former hotspot returning.

The venue had its heyday in the 1990s, attracting top DJs to the Cookstown venue until its closure in 2015.

It was rebranded as music venue Lanyon Hall at that poin, but it closed its doors at the beginning of 2020.

Clubbers will remember the "Blast Off" experience where a huge rocket ship would be lowered from the ceiling in the direction of the dance floor, smoke would be pumped into the room and people would go wild.

The Northern Ireland Executive confirmed on Thursday that nightclubs will be allowed to reopen as social distancing at indoor entertainment venues will be scrapped from October 31.

Speaking to MyTyrone, former Clubland DJ Francie Quinn said the venue was one of a kind on its day.

"There was various international artists who came to play back in the day, even Dana made an appearance at one stage," Francie said.

"There were a lot of great nights and great characters and a fantastic atmosphere."

Could one more Blast Off be on the horizon for clubbers from Co Tyrone and beyond?
