A woman has been praised for telling how she "smacked" a lad who "groped" her in a nightclub.
Harriet Bowley, 21, has spoken out on social media about how she was "sexually assaulted" on the dancefloor and resorted to an act of self-defence.
She said the man who touched her looked "genuinely furious and shocked" as she criticised his vile behaviour after he "touched her up without consent".
Harriet, from Sheffield, wrote in a series of tweets that she also hopes her coming forward will "normalise girls standing up for themselves when they get groped", YorkshireLive reports.
On August 7, Harriet tweeted: "I smacked a lad last night who sexually assaulted me in the club, and he looked genuinely furious and shocked?
"Normalise girls standing up for themselves when they get groped wtf.

"So it's absolutely fine for you, as a stranger, to touch me up without consent but not ok for me to touch you in self-defence? Okkkk...
"Also the best part about this is I was literally wearing a massive jumper round my waist so wasn't wearing anything 'revealing' at all. Before any idiots start to try to justify groping strangers in clubs."
Harriet's tweet has been shared almost 2,000 times and dozens of people have leapt to her support on the social media site.
She didn't specify what club she was in when it happened.
One said: "It doesn’t matter if you were wearing revealing clothing, lads don’t have the right to grope you.
"I’ll teach my daughter that what you did is spot on but I’ll also teach my son that it’s not ok!"
Another posted: "No justification for them touching you regardless of what you were wearing. Fair play for smacking the t***.".
A third person tweeted: "Tbf, you could have been wearing the skimpiest bikini and he would still deserve the same smacking."
As well as messages of support, other women also shared harrowing experiences of behaviour they have been subjected to on nights out.

"I just don’t understand what they get out of it!???"
