Club World Cup: How much have Chelsea earned in prize money after winning final?

Chelsea have won the Club World Cup as they secure a second piece of silverware in as many months and with it a staggering prize pot worth a record $1billion (£726million).

The Blues beat Fluminense in the semi-finals on Tuesday to take home £22m in prize money alone. Victory in the final earned them another £7.5m.

The total prize money one team can earn from winning the competition is £92m, down from £97m since the tournament began due to the exchange rate between US dollars and British pounds changing in the weeks since, but Chelsea will earn less than that despite lifting the trophy on Sunday.

How much is the Club World Cup prize money worth?

The participating fee varies for European teams, so Chelsea would not necessarily earn the same as potential finalists PSG or Real Madrid, depending on "sporting and commercial criteria". FIFA are yet to confirm the participation fee for teams, but it has been reported that Manchester City’s is bigger than Chelsea’s.

However, the prize money does not differ once the tournament begins, with group stage wins worth around £1.5m and draws earning £750,000.

Clubs who qualified out of their group earned £5.4m, with another £9.5m in the kitty for reaching the quarter-finals.

A semi-final spot was worth £15.2m and then reaching the final guaranteed another £21.8m. The winner gets another £7.5m on top of that, and the trophy of course.

The total prize pot Fifa has offered is $1bn (£726m), which is believed to be a record amount.

How much prize money have Chelsea won?

Chelsea won two of their three group games and then stormed through the knockout stage.

By the time their lined up at the MetLife Stadium for Sunday’s final, they had already earned around £80m, depending on their exact participation fee.

That total rose around £7.5m for winning the final, for a total of £87.5m.
