Club send out clear message over in-demand Nottingham Forest summer 'target'

Dundee United admit they will “have to look at” any bids which come in for reported Nottingham Forest target Lawrence Shankland this summer.

But they are keen to hang on to the striker, who has been in prolific form this season.

The Reds were linked with Shankland last summer and speculation resurfaced in the January transfer window.

Fresh reports then emerged last month, claiming Forest faced a “tug of war” with Championship rivals Stoke City for his signature.

And Dundee sporting director Tony Ashgar is braced for interest in his star man, after the forward played a key part in securing promotion.

“If bids come in, we’ll have to look at them,” he told BBC Scotland.

"(We'll assess) the situation financially, whether it's going to help the club long term. (It is) strange times, but ultimately we definitely want to hold on to him.

"Lawrence has two years left on his contract and I know he is really happy where he is. He is looking forward to playing for us in the Premiership.

"It will be interesting how the market is going to play.

“Everyone says there will be no transfer signings; I don't see that. Clubs are always going to try to enhance their squad and sign players.”

Shankland bagged 28 goals in 33 games as he fired the Scottish side to the Championship title.

The Scotland international penned a three-year deal when he made the move from Ayr United almost 12 months ago.

And the man himself insists he is just focused on playing in the top-flight next term.

“The first objective is to secure our place in the Premiership in our first season back. If we can get it done early doors then maybe we can sneak into the top six or even better,” he told the Daily Record.
