Club owners meet to discuss forming company to run League of Ireland

Club owners met this week to discuss forming a company to run the League of Ireland.

Shelbourne investor Andrew Doyle is driving the project and all 20 clubs were represented at Tuesday's meeting in Dublin city centre.

Some of the owners in attendance had travelled from abroad. There was also a number of independent experts invited.

In England, both the Premier League and Football League are run by standalone companies which tie into the Football Association.

One source at the meeting said: “It wasn’t a radical approach, it was common sense stuff. It is standard around the world to have a company like this with a legal identity.”

Talks are said to be at an 'exploratory' stage but the group has lined up more meetings going forward.
