Club director reveals Bruno Fernandes transfer pride following Manchester United move

CSKA Sofia sporting director Cristiano Giaretta has revealed his 'pride' after Bruno Fernandes completed his move to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Giaretta previously held directorial roles at Udinese and Ascoli and played a key role in bringing Fernandes to Italy during his time at Novara.

Since moving to Italy the midfielder developed vastly as a player before taking his career to a new level once he returned home to Portugal with Sporting Lisbon.

United finally completed a £46.5million deal for Fernandes last month after the midfielder moved to Old Trafford on a five-and-a-half year contract with the option of an additional year.

Speaking after the deal finally went through, Giaretta spoke of his pride and revealed the incredible determination which has benefited Fernandes so far in his career.

“Yes, a lot. It all started with a trip to Boavista to see this talented player who convinced me, and we took him to Italy,” he told Tutto Mercato Web Radio via Sport Witness.

“He was very weak from the physical point of view but his main feature is the head. After a month in Novara he was already able to hold an interview in Italian and this makes it clear the dedication he had to get to the top with great determination. It’s a pride to see him at Manchester United.”
