Club delegates walk out of Louth County Board meeting

Club delegates walked out of Monday night’s July meeting of Louth County Board following the chairman’s request for the media to leave.

Seven committee members left following Des Halpenny’s decision ahead of discussions on the county teams’ recent poor performances.

The meeting was originally due to take place on Monday of last week, just two days after the senior footballers’ qualifier defeat by Antrim and the hurlers’ relegation from the Nicky Rackard Cup.

However, clubs were notified of the gathering’s postponement just 24 hours beforehand, with no reason for the move having been provided. This still wasn’t clarified by the time of the media’s dismissal on Monday.

It’s the latest turn in a fraught relationship between Louth County Board and sections of the local media, although it’s the first time in his four-and-a-half years as chairman that Mr Halpenny has taken such action at a monthly meeting.
