Arsenal continued their perfect Champions League start with an imperious display against Club Brugge in Belgium, with Noni Madueke scoring a double and Gabriel Martinelli putting the icing on the cake on a near-perfect night.
It’s six wins from six in the competition for Mikel Arteta’s side, leaving them top of the league phase table having conceded only a single goal so far.
Madueke scored a screamer from range, riffling the back of the net at the 25-minute mark to give the Gunners a deserved lead. The former Chelsea man scored a second immediately after the restart, nodding in from almost under the crossbar after a beautiful cross by Martin Zubimendi.
Gabriel Martinelli added a third to Arsenal’s cushion 10 minutes later, bending a superb strike past van den Heuvel and putting Arteta’s men in cruise control.
David Raya was tested multiple times but Club Brugge failed to crack the Gunners in their first game under new boss Ivan Leko.

Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
22:02 , Flo CliffordArsenal were tested many times tonight which the scoreline doesn’t quite reflect, but withstood the storm on what was a pretty ideal night.
Three goals, a clean sheet, and they extended their lead at the top of the table to three points.
Gabriel Jesus looked lively on his return from nearly a year off, while Gabriel Martinelli became the first Arsenal player to score in five straight Champions League appearances.
And highly-rated 16-year-old Marli Salmon made his debut for the club.
FULL-TIME: Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal

Arsenal’s 100% record in Europe continues.

DOUBLE SAVE! Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal

Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:51 , Flo Clifford‘90: Stankovic clatters the wall. It comes back to him but he blasts into the stands. He’s frustrated with that and it just about sums up their night.
Three minutes added on to this Arsenal procession.
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:50 , Flo Clifford‘89: Furo wins a free-kick for the hosts in a good position as Calafiori gets wrong-footed and stamps on his man’s foot, just a little there there.
It’s just outside the box on the right...
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:46 , Flo Clifford‘85: Nwaneri lays it off for Jesus, who looks very distressed as his shot heads straight for the keeper.
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:44 , Flo Clifford‘83: Saka lays off another curling attempt, van den Heuvel punches it away when maybe he should have just caught it.
Arteta has relaxed sufficiently to bring off White for 16-year-old Marli Salmon, who makes his Champions League debut. What a star.
Forbs comes off for the hosts, for Diakhon.
OFF THE BAR! Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:40 , Flo Clifford‘79: Gabriel Jesus has been active and is desperate for a goal to top off his return to action. He bends a lovely shot goalward with van den Heuvel beaten but it bounces off the crossbar!
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:38 , Flo Clifford‘77: Martinelli floats a deep ball to the back post but it’s slightly too high for Saka.

21:36 , Flo CliffordChance for Furo! Forbs plays it forward and Furo stings Raya’s gloves with a close-range attempt.
Seys and Onyedika come off for Vetlesen and Sabbe.
Stankovic nods another attempt goalward but it’s wide. Now Meijer latches onto a sweet pass from Tzolis, but lashes his attempt a fraction wide too! Brugge probing again.
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:33 , Flo Clifford‘73: Jesus dances along the edge of the box and lays off an attempt but doesn’t quite get enough power on it, and van den Heuvel gets down low to save.

Tzolis now has a go from 22 yards out but flashes wide! Brugge have just been lacking quality tonight.
More subs for Arsenal: double scorer Madueke and Odegaard are off for Nwaneri and Saka.
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:29 , Flo Clifford‘69: Subs for the hosts now: Furo and Meijer are on for Siquet and Tresoldi.
On the subject of subs, Gabriel Jesus got a huge cheer from the travelling fans on his first appearance since an ACL injury in January.
White goes into the book now for chopping down Tzolis, another cynical foul.
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:28 , Flo Clifford‘67: Club Brugge attack. It’s Tzolis again with a deep cross; it’s a good one but there’s no-one in. Siquet now sends in another and Calafiori heads it behind for a corner for the hosts.
Mechele swings at the delivery but it takes a deflection off one of his teammates and Lewis-Skelly just about clears the line!
Norgaard has picked up a yellow for a cynical foul on Tresoldi.
Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:23 , Flo Clifford‘63: Subs! Hincapie and the rather anonymous Gyokeres make way for Gabriel Jesus - on after almost a year out! - and Calafiori.

Arteta is readying changes.

GOAL! Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal
21:18 , Flo Clifford‘56: Lovely by Martinelli. He darts past Onyedika and fires a sweet shot into the back of the net, taking it on the turn and bending it well beyond van den Heuvel’s reach.
The first Arsenal player to score in five Champions League games in a row.
Ivan Leko looks pained.
SAVE! Club Brugge 0-2 Arsenal
21:15 , Flo Clifford‘55: Tzolis - who has been tricky all evening - has a punt and Raya gets down quickly to his left. Good save.
This is better from the hosts.
Club Brugge 0-2 Arsenal
21:14 , Flo Clifford‘54: Having been in the ascendancy for much of the end of the first half you’d have expected Brugge to have made a better start to this one, but they’ve been flat as anything.
Martinelli cuts in under pressure by the back post but Brugge get back in numbers.

Club Brugge 0-2 Arsenal
21:11 , Flo Clifford‘51: That goal has had the added bonus of killing off the crowd, too.
Tzolis does his best to rescue it though with another pass lacing through the Arsenal defence, Tresoldi miscontrolling slightly in the centre on the edge of the box, and the danger passes.
GOAL! Club Brugge 0-2 Arsenal
21:08 , Flo Clifford‘47: That’s the start to this half Arsenal were after!
Club Brugge completely fall asleep at the far post, Seys is guilty of letting Madueke loose as he latches on to a beautiful cross by Martinelli, and Madueke heads in from more or less under the crossbar.

HALF-TIME: Club Brugge 0-1 Arsenal
20:52 , Flo Clifford‘45+5: The whistle blows on a fast and furious half. That was nothing if not entertaining.
Arsenal lead through a peach of a strike from Noni Madueke, but can perhaps count themselves lucky half-time has come after a sustained spell of Club Brugge pressure.
Madueke nearly added a second late on but both goalkeepers have been kept busy, van den Heuvel enjoying a strong first outing in the Champions League.

Ivan Leko and the crowd are furious as Stankovic isn’t awarded a foul.

Club Brugge 0-1 Arsenal

The home support sing their approval.
SAVE! Club Brugge 0-1 Arsenal
20:38 , Flo Clifford‘37: Danger for Arsenal as the hosts counter quickly from an Odegaard throw-in, Tresoldi sending a long ball forward to Forbs. Forbs latches on immediately and has acres of space, cutting inside and laying off an attempt - but it’s straight at Raya.
Club Brugge 0-1 Arsenal
20:36 , Flo Clifford‘35: Brugge haven’t let their heads drop. Onyedika is urged to shoot by the home faithful as he wends his way into the box, but is pinned back by multiple Arsenal shirts.
The hosts counter again: Forbs makes a delightful run down the right and lays it off for Vanaken in the centre, but the captain mishits his attempt and drags it wide. Forbs has got some serious pace. Arsenal have been warned.
CLOSE! Club Brugge 0-1 Arsenal
20:34 , Flo Clifford‘33: A busy spell at both ends; Brugge counter but Odegaard clears for Arsenal, before the hosts have a mare clearing their lines again as Martinelli mishits on the turn but still manages to work it forward.
The ball eventually falls to Gyokeres, whose close-range header is caught by the keeper.

SAVE! Club Brugge 0-1 Arsenal
20:30 , Flo Clifford‘29: Nearly a second! Martinelli’s corner falls to Hincapie in the box but his attempt is just about cleared off the line!
GOAL! Club Brugge 0-1 Arsenal
20:29 , Flo Clifford‘25: Madueke with the opener!
The summer signing floats languidly near the sideline, picking up the ball near the halfway line. He darts past two markers, then suddenly ups the pace and drives towards the box, riffling an absolute stunner into the back of the net. No chance for the keeper.
Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:23 , Flo Clifford‘23: Lewis-Skelly in fact dragged it wide but Hincapie turned it towards goal, only to have it clatter the post.
OFF THE POST! Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:22 , Flo Clifford‘21: Arsenal have a long throw-in... Vanaken clears but only as far as Odegaard, and Lewis-Skelly turns it against the post!
Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:20 , Flo Clifford‘19: Arsenal have had most of the possession so far but are just probing, that early Odegaard attempt aside. White launches a cross in but doesn’t beat the first man. Are they missing the sick Declan Rice?
Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:15 , Flo Clifford‘15: Madueke has his left hand taped up and seems fine to continue. Another injury averted, for now.

Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:13 , Flo Clifford‘13: Club Brugge demonstrate why they can cause serious problems, Siquet threading a lovely reverse pass to Vanaken in the box. The captain opts not to shoot though and Arsenal clear the danger.
Little break now as Madueke gets some treatment on his arm.
Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:12 , Flo Clifford‘11: Van den Heuvel has had a good start, punching away a corner with authority despite being a very late call-up to this game.
Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:08 , Flo Clifford‘7: Lot of Arsenal so far. Madueke heads towards Gyokeres but Forbs, a lively presence so far, leads the counter.
Tresoldi takes a throw-in for the visitors that leads to a melee in the Brugge box: Forbs dances around two markers and there’s plenty of outrage as the home fans think he’s fouled by Merino in the box.
The referee’s in a good place to spot anything but proceedings continue.
SAVE! Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:05 , Flo Clifford‘4: Tidy ball forward by Odegaard to Merino, who plays a nice one-two and Odegaard lets fly on the edge of the box.
Van den Heuvel, Club Brugge’s third-choice keeper, has been called into action by injury to both the shot-stoppers ahead of him and he palms it away with a leap to his right.
Club Brugge 0-0 Arsenal
20:03 , Flo Clifford‘2: Arsenal have an early chance to get a ball into the box with a throw-in. Norgaard’s delivery is nice and deep but it’s headed away... he’ll have another chance straight after. Forbs boots it away with authority.

Arsenal XI: Raya, White, Norgaard, Hincapie, Lewis-Skelly, Merino, Zubimendi, Odegaard, Madueke, Martinelli, Gyokeres.
How the table looks
19:43 , Flo CliffordA win tonight would see Arsenal move clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the Champions League table; the sides are currently level on 15 points, but Arsenal have a game in hand.
Club Brugge meanwhile are languishing down in 28th, two points off the top 24 and therefore the play-off spots.
Injury crisis at Arsenal
19:37 , Flo CliffordArteta was asked about having the second-biggest number of injuries in the Premier League. He said: “I think you have to separate the kinds of injuries that they have. Some of them have been long-term and acute injuries, especially with some of the key players who give you a lot of days out. It's something that we are constantly looking at.
“As I said, we have played a lot of games with a lot of players missing. That gives a lot of stress and then more injuries. We are on it and I'm really happy with what we are doing in terms of the medical stuff and everything that we are trying to do together. Sometimes, as well, we need some people to go in our time.”
Are his players over-trained? “No, because we don't train. Today, we've done 20 minutes. So, it's probably not because we're over-trained players.”
Injury crisis at Arsenal
19:30 , Flo CliffordMikel Arteta had this to say in his pre-match press conference on swapping out talented 15-year-old Max Dowman for Gabriel Jesus in the Champions League squad.
“Unfortunately, Max picked up an injury last weekend [playing for the U21s]. We did some scans and he's going to be out for weeks,”
“Then we had the situation of Gabi. We expected him to be training with us by the end of December. But Gabi has been pushing every single day and he kept telling everybody he would be back earlier.
“He has done it. Thanks to his work and the work the medical staff has done with him throughout these months, we had the possibility to make a swap there.”

Club Brugge in managerial turmoil
19:20 , Flo CliffordClub Brugge are playing under a new manager tonight after Nicky Hayen was sacked two days ago. Here’s what club captain Hans Vanaken had to say on the change:
“A surprise for the squad,” he told a press conference on Tuesday. “Nobody expected that. There wasn’t really a reason or anything we thought was a reason. Look, the board has made a decision and it’s up to the players to accept that.
“We know that in football, tough decisions are made sometimes. Firing a coach is always unpleasant. Secretly, we’re all convinced that things could have got better in the coming months.”
“Ivan is a completely different personality than Nicky, he has a bit more fire in him. That’s not to say one is better than the other, but in the past, we clicked.” (Vanaken played under Leko at Brugge from 2017-2019.)

Five changes for Arsenal
18:55 , Flo CliffordMikel Arteta has made five changes to the side that lost to Aston Villa, with Viktor Gyokeres starting for the first time since 1 November.
Christian Norgaard, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli are all brought in, with Riccardo Calafiori, Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze dropping to the bench. Norgaard is at centre-back, such is Arsenal’s defensive crisis, and it’s only December.
Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber haven’t been included in the match-day squad, the former due to illness and the latter for reasons unknown.
It’s a youthful bench, with teenagers Louie Copley, Josh Nichols and Marli Salmon among the subs.

Arsenal predicted line-up
18:40 , Flo CliffordWe’ll have team news in the next five minutes or so, but for now here’s our predicted line-up for this evening...
Raya; White, Timber, Hincapie, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Norgaard, Merino; Madueke, Gyokeres, Martinelli.
Early team news
18:30 , Flo CliffordGabriel Jesus could make a long-awaited return for Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, but Declan Rice (ill) and Leandro Trossard (calf) join a lengthy list of players sidelined for the Premier League leaders, manager Mikel Arteta said on Tuesday.
The Brazilian striker has been out since January after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee in an FA Cup tie against Manchester United, but returned to training last month and was an unused substitute against Chelsea and Brentford in the last few weeks.
Arteta could ring the changes in order to keep his starting players fresh.
Gabriel Martinelli chasing Arsenal history
18:20 , Harry Latham-CoyleGabriel Martinelli could become the first Arsenal player to score in five straight Champions League games should he get on the scoresheet tonight. The Brazilian has registered just once in the Premier League this season but believes the continental competition suits him.
“I think in the Champions League, sometimes it's a bit more open, the game,” he explained. “Everyone just wants to attack and have loads of space sometimes.
"In the Premier League, it's a bit more tricky to score and to have more space. I'm really happy with the goals I've scored, helping the team and I hope to keep playing."

Club Brugge director of football explains managerial change
18:10 , Harry Latham-CoyleIvan Leko is highly familiar with Club Brugge both from that managerial spell and his playing days, with the Croatian spending several seasons in the city.
“Our choice to appoint Ivan Leko is a deliberate one and one we make with full confidence,” director of football Devy Rigaux said after parting ways with Nicky Hayen. “He embodies drive, energy and passion. He has been highly successful both as a player and as a coach at Club Brugge, and he fully embodies the Club Brugge DNA.
“We remain convinced that there is a great deal of quality within this squad, but we are equally aware that results have lacked consistency. That responsibility is shared, and we won’t shy away from it. We will therefore look to make targeted additions during the winter transfer window."
Club Brugge under new management
18:00 , Harry Latham-CoylePlenty of issues, then, for Arsenal as they look to continue a perfect Champions League start. Surely Club Brugge are in finer fettle? Well, they’ve just announced the shock sacking of their manager after dropping to third in the Belgian Pro League and re-appointed Ivan Leko, whose first stint was eventful.

Mikel Arteta denies overtraining Arsenal players after latest injury setback
17:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleYoung Max Dowman is another Arsenal absentee, with the 15-year-old ruled out “for weeks”. The injury toll has led some to question Mikel Arteta’s methods in training, though the Arsenal manager issued a staunch defence yesterday.

Gabriel Jesus could make long-awaited return in Arsenal’s clash with Club Brugge
17:35 , Harry Latham-CoyleThings aren’t looking great on the injury front for Arsenal - Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard both haven’t travelled for this game. There is better news about Gabriel Jesus, though, with the Brazil forward nearing a return from a long lay-off after knee surgery:

Jurrien Timber urges Arsenal to use Aston Villa loss as motivation
17:25 , Harry Latham-CoyleArsenal’s 18-match unbeaten run is at an end, then, leaving plenty of motivation as they look to start the count again tonight. Jurrien Timber was pressed into duties at centre half amid injury issues at the back but is hopeful the squad can channel their frustration tonight.

Aston Villa thrust themselves into title race by exposing Arsenal flaw
17:05 , Harry Latham-CoyleWas Aston Villa merely an aberration or a sign of something more serious for Arsenal? No doubt, they were not at their best in a 2-1 defeat.

Club Brugge vs Arsenal live
16:59 , Harry Latham-CoyleArsenal’s Champions League charge continues in Bruges as Mikel Arteta’s side bid to continue their perfect start in the competition. It’s five wins from five for the London club in Europe this season, but a combination of the visitors’ injuries and the league set-back against Aston Villa may leave Club Brugge spying vulnerability within the ranks. Can they spring a shock?
Kick off is at 8pm GMT.
