An Essex nightclub frequented by TOWIE cast members and Premier League footballers has had its licence suspended after a string of violent attacks.

Epping Forest District Council suspended Club 195’s licence on Friday after Essex Police called for a review.

Two teenagers had been injured in or near the Epping club as revellers saw in the New Year.

One was stabbed in the stomach after he was involved in "a verbal exchange" with a group of men on the dancefloor. A second victim was left unconscious, with several teeth missing, after being attacked in the street outside.

Police said there had also been “a number of incidents across 2018”.

The Standard has approached Club 195 for comment on the issue.

Ahead of the suspension, the club had been promoting a "January sale" night for Saturday, advertising £3 drinks all night.

Its website, meanwhile, reads: “The exclusive Club 195 is the most credible and trendiest club in Essex, combining the decadence of the West End with some of the most prestigious clubbing brands in the world.

“Since 2003 we've offered the most elite Saturday night out in Essex, with an influential crowd and the chance to mix and mingle with more celebrities than any other club in the area.”

Its dress code is "very smart, with only designer trainers permitted throughout the winter months".

As well as TOWIE cast members, it has been visited by actor Jude Law, footballers Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole, boxer David Haye and singers Pixie Lott and Miguel.

Essex Police said in a statement: “A bar in Epping has had its licence suspended today following concerns by police about incidents of violence at, or in the vicinity of, the premises.

"Essex Police applied for a review of the licence for Club 195 following a number of incidents across 2018.

"Epping Forest District Council's licensing sub-committee has suspended the licence today and it comes with immediate effect.

"A full hearing to review Club 195's licence will take place in due course at which Essex Police will ask for the licence to be revoked."
