Clown terrifies university students across Edinburgh in hilarious Halloween PR stunt

A clown has been terrifying students at campuses across Edinburgh, as part of a hilarious Halloween publicity stunt.

Half asleep students at Edinburgh University, Napier and Heriot-Watt were left trembling when Pennywise paid them a visit yesterday - but obviously they still captured the whole thing on social media.

If you don't already know, Pennywise the dancing clown is the shapeshifting incarnation of It from Stephen King's 1986 horror novel who preys on children.

The clown started off its reign of terror at Holyrood Park, before being let loose in university cafeterias, libraries and lecture halls across the city.

And you'd better keep an eye out because it looks the clown has come back for more today, after a video surfaced this morning showing Pennywise cruising around the city.

Thankfully for Edinburgh's student population, Pennywise was only here spread the word about a wicked Halloween night out.

Organisers behind Love Wednesdays, a popular club night at Why Not on George Street, had enlisted the help of the clown to get (force) students to come along.

A spokesperson for Love Wednesdays told Edinburgh Live: "Love is the country’s biggest midweek student night, so we’re always looking to deliver more than just a night out for our customers every Wednesday, an ethos that we proudly share with the venue, WhyNot Nightclub.

"Rather than just do generic digital marketing like most other nights, we wanted to do something interactive and engaging that tied in with our I.T. themed Halloween event tonight, and would be a little bit of fun for students on campus across the city.

"We got a fantastic reaction everywhere we went, from screams in the library to the cafeteria’s and lecture halls, Pennywise certainly caused a stir and definitely gave students across Edinburgh something to talk about that day!"
