AHMEDABAD: After recording maximum temperature of 36.5 degrees celsius, 1.9 degrees higher than normal, the city received a drizzle on Tuesday evening. Ahmedabad got 1mm of rainfall.
According to the forecast of India Meteorological Department (IMD), the next five days will see widespread rain across the state.
“The low-pressure area over central parts of Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over central-west Madhya Pradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan… the offshore trough at mean sea level from Gujarat to Maharashtra coast persists,” the IMD bulletin said.
Manorama Mohanty, the IMD-Gujarat head, on Tuesday said that across Gujarat there will be rain, including heavy to very heavy, in some places. “For Wednesday and Thursday, we have given a forecast of heavy rain for parts of south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra. We have also issued a warning to fishermen,” she said.
On Tuesday, Kalyanpur in Devbhoomi Dwarka district received 153mm of rainfall, followed by Dwarka at 105mm, and Ranavav in Porbandar district at 102mm. In all, 15 talukas recorded more than 50mm of rainfall till 8pm.
Ahmedabad district and the city as on Tuesday morning had a rain deficit of 55%. For the district, normal rainfall is 138.2mm; it has received only 56.3mm so far.
The city control room stated that Ahmedabad city has received 37.24mm of rainfall since June 15, the official date for the onset of the monsoon.
On Tuesday, between 7pm and 8 pm, the city received 0.32mm of rainfall.
Gota has experienced the highest rainfall of 76mm in this season. The control room said that maximum rainfall of 55.05mm has been received in the northwest zone including the areas of Bodakdev, Science City, Gota, and Chandlodia.
The lowest rainfall has been received in the north zone in areas including Memco, Naroda, and Kotarpur.
