Tim Winton’s iconic 1991 Australian novel has been adapted into a play, a television mini-series, and now an opera.
Cloudstreet is the story of the Lambs and the Pickles, two Australian families who share a house on Cloud Street, in post-war Perth. The Lambs find meaning in God’s grace, the Pickles, in luck. They are separated by their differences, until they are united by extraordinary events.
After four years of development, this musical treatment of Winton’s haunting depiction of Western Australia will be directed by Opera Australia’s Gale Edwards. Music is composed by George Palmer, with libretto by Palmer and Winton.
