Closures on major Perthshire road

A major Perthshire road will be subjected to overnight closures to allow £225,000 worth of resurfacing works to take place.

From Sunday, June 23 the A85 west of Crieff is set to undergo 10 nights of resurfacing works to create a safer road for motorists.

The £225,000 investment by Transport Scotland is scheduled to start at 7pm on Sunday, June 23, with resurfacing improvements due to be completed by 6am on Friday, July 5.

The first phase project will begin on Sunday, June 23 and will take place over five nights to Friday, June 28, from 7pm to 6am.

To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists during this period, an overnight road closure will be in place.

Traffic will be diverted along the A822, A823, A9, A820 and A84 before re-joining the A85.

The diversion route is expected to add approximately 35 minutes onto road users journey time.

All traffic management will be removed during the daytime, however a 30mph speed limit will be in place as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.

Access will be maintained for emergency services and scheduled bus services at all times.

Local access within the closure points will be maintained.

The second phase of the project will begin on Sunday, June 30 and will take place over five nights to Friday, July 5, from 7pm to 6am.

The A85 will remain open during this phase, with a 10mph convoy system in place for safety to protect road workers and motorists.

Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, however a 30mph speed limit will remain in place for safety, as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative said: “This project will provide an improved road surface once complete, boosting the quality of the transport links for the area as well as increasing safety for the travelling public.

“The traffic management arrangements are essential to keep roadworkers and motorists safe during the improvements.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption by planning the project to take place overnight and avoiding working Friday and Saturday nights.

“We’ve also arranged to accommodate the local bus services to limit the impact during the project.

“Our teams will work to complete the resurfacing as quickly and safely as possible.”
