Closure of St Vincent Place in Glasgow city centre extended until weekend

A busy street in the heart of Glasgow city centre will remain closed until the weekend for essential road maintenance.

St Vincent Place was scheduled to close to all traffic between West Nile Street and George Square until Tuesday (February 11) due to essential gas main improvement works that began last week.

Police Scotland report the road will now be inaccessible until Sunday (February 16) because of adverse weather conditions - and warn of delays for drivers.

A tweet from Glasgow City Centre Police Division reads: "Due to the adverse weather conditions experienced over the last few days that it will be necessary for the closure of St Vincent Place to be extended until Sunday 16 February 2020.

"There will be diversions in place. Please expect delays".

Three updated weather warnings have been issued for Glasgow this weekend and following week as Storm Dennis hits the city.

A yellow alert for rain and wind is in place this Saturday  from 9am to 6pm, with winds of up to 60mph and the potential for flooding.
