The Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea theme parks will remain closed for the time being, operator Oriental Land Co. said Monday.

The company said it will decide when to resume operations of the parks in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, taking into account such factors as the gradual relaxation of requests for business suspensions from local governments.

Disneyland and DisneySea have been closed since Feb. 29. About 5,400 park employees have been furloughed as of May 18, but they are receiving pay as though they have worked four days per month.

However, about 130 outlets at Ikspiari, the shopping complex at Tokyo Disney Resort, reopened Monday for the first time in three months. About 200 Disney fans and others gathered in front of the mall before it opened at 11 a.m.
