'Closer to what?' - Man City fans react to Premier League's Liverpool tweet

Manchester City's 5-1 thrashing of Watford temporarily moved them four points clear at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday, although by Sunday evening the lead had been cut back down to one.

Liverpool's 2-0 win against Everton in the Merseyside derby cranked up the pressure another notch or two, although ultimately City know that if they win their remaining five games then they will be champions. However, you wouldn't have known that going off a tweet published from the official Premier League account on Sunday night...

A series of photos of Liverpool players celebrating during the derby day win were posted alongside the one-finger emoji and the words 'step closer'. Given that the title is in City's hands, it seems a little odd for the impartial Premier League to suggest that Jurgen Klopp's side are a step closer to anything.

City fans, it's fair to say, are not too impressed.

@mcfcsince1894: Well if I had any doubt as to where the EPL's loyalties lie, no attempt to hide which colours are nailed on to your mast hmmm... for the record City are still top by 1 point and IF we win all our remaining games....

@kdbking12: Step closer to what exactly ?? The Liverpool bias is crazy in the media

@Pepology: This is very strange

But not everyone is overly bothered by the tweet...

@BenWills: Not like Man City fans to have an over the top reaction to something that doesn’t matter

The whole thing has arguably been blown out of proportion a bit. It was an ill-advised tweet, but hardly a clear sign of bias or anything more sinister.
