'Closer and closer' - Portuguese media react to Darwin Nunez to Liverpool transfer latest

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica.

We have reported that a deal that could be worth up to £85m is almost done.

And plenty of media outlets from Portugal have also been having their say.

Here is how the Portuguese media have reported the latest updates on Darwin Nunez’s deal to Liverpool…

Jornal de Noticias

“Darwin will already be in England this Sunday to complete the transfer to Liverpool. The Benfica player missed on Saturday the game against Uruguay, Portugal's opponent in the final stage of the Qatar 2022 Football World Cup, which hosted and thrashed Panama 5-0.

“The South American federation claimed health reasons for the absence of this preparation game, but in fact, the footballer was in permanent contact with the businessman to smooth the last edges of Benfica's departure.

“From what JN learned, there were more meetings, Saturday morning, between Benfica and the English emblem in order to settle the last details of the deal. The Uruguayan's pass is sold for 80 million, to which 20 million are added depending on goals.

“This Sunday, Darwin will already be in England to complete the transfer, which will last for five seasons. A year, it will earn around eight million euros.”

Record

“Darwin is getting closer and closer to being made official at Liverpool for the next five seasons.

“According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Benfica and the Reds reached a verbal agreement this morning for the transfer of the Uruguayan striker who, as Record had already advanced, should yield 80 million euros to the coffers of the club da Luz , plus 20 M€ bonuses for objectives.”

O Jogo

“Negotiation marathon guaranteed the eagles an agreement with accessible goals and the €100 million cash inflow is... affordable. Deal with Liverpool for the Uruguayan, who has already travelled to England, includes 80 M€ fixed, 10 more almost immediately and as many as can be reached in just over a season. Not even Tchouaméni cost that much.

“Done deal. It is at this point that the sale of Darwin's pass by Benfica to Liverpool is now and which could be made official, through a statement to the Securities Market Commission, in the next few hours, despite the usual influence of a long weekend. Everything is agreed between the parties and with the player, just missing the medical exams and subsequent signing of the contract to complete what is so far the biggest transfer of a player in the world this year.

“Darwin's sale will surpass that of Haaland, from Dortmund to Manchester City (about €75 million between clubs), and the one announced yesterday by Tchouaméni, from Monaco to Real Madrid, for the same 80+20 as the Eagles' forward , but with a substantial difference due to the volume "lost" in taxes. Having travelled from Bordeaux to Monaco in 2019, where there is a special tax regime, 25% of taxes will have to be paid on sales abroad, which made the value of the operation more expensive.

“The green light for the biggest deal in the history of the reds meant that Darwin was excluded by his federation from yesterday's game of the Uruguay national team against Panama, being expected in Liverpool between today and tomorrow morning to undergo medical examinations and sign a contract. of five seasons that will earn him around eight million euros a year.”

A Bola

“The officials of Benfica and Liverpool met this Saturday in Lisbon and the deal was sealed: Darwin Núñez will even be a Reds player for five years.

“The English club pays €75 million fixed, plus €25 million depending on variables, but for the transfer to reach €100 million, the Uruguayan only needs to play 60 games in 5 years.

“Almería receives 10 million, according to what was stipulated when the player was transferred to Luz.

“The player left the Uruguay national team yesterday and is expected to be in England at all times to undergo medical tests and sign a contract.”
