Closed town centre bar wins permission to reopen after South Ayrshire Council licence approval

Shut pub Boswells Bar in Ayr could reopen after getting the green light for a booze licence under new name Stag.

Councillors on the South Ayrshire Council's Licensing Board approved the bid at a recent private meeting.

Charles Taylor applied for the provisional premises licence that would allow the business to be open for drinks until 1am, seven nights a week.

Service is to start at 10.30am every day apart from Sundays when the opening time will be noon.

The premises also got the go-ahead for alcohol off-sales.

The venue intends to offer meals, music, dancing, films and televised sport among other entertainment.

Capacity would be 218 people.

A report from the council’s clerk said: “This is an application for a provisional premises licence. The venue comprises town centre ground floor premises. The premises have been licensed in the past but the previous licence holder surrendered the licence in 2019.”

Councillors considered a written statement from Mr Taylor and heard from the depute clerk before making their decision.

Conservative Councillor Margaret Toner said: “It would  be nice ton see the premises open again.”

There were no objections.
