Closed hearing to be held in trial of Bruce Lehrmann, the man accused of raping Brittany Higgins

The ACT Supreme Court will hold a closed hearing next week, regarding an application made in the trial of Bruce Lehrmann, the man accused of raping former political staffer Brittany Higgins.

Mr Lehrmann is accused of raping Ms Higgins, who was his colleague at the time, in an office at Parliament House in March 2019.

Mr Lehrmann has pleaded not guilty and has denied that any sexual activity occurred.

He faced trial over the alleged offence earlier this year, but the jury was discharged last month when misconduct by one of the jurors was uncovered.

A new trial date has been set for February 20, 2023.

Today, the ACT Supreme Court confirmed it would be hearing an application relating to the trial on December 2 and that media and members of the public would not be allowed to attend.

It issued a non-publication order, prohibiting the media from reporting on details of the hearing or any evidence intended to be given in support of the application.
