A mediator sent by the European Union to negotiate the reopening of Georgian TV channel Imedi says he expects it to be back on air this week. The station was shut down by the authorities on November 7. Adam Michnik, editor of Poland's Gazeta Wyborcza, told a news conference that if the administration fails to allow the channel to broadcast "I will have to say that the Georgian government doesn't want freedom of the media during the electoral campaign and that this poses a major threat to democracy in Georgia."
