Closed Fife wedding venue turns into drive-in cinema for the weekend

Pratis Barns wedding venue owners Patrick and Nicola Gilmour are to turn their property into a drive-in cinema while Covid puts couples' celebrations on hold.

They will open on August 28 for a weekend of popular movies at their grounds near Leven in Fife.

Patrick said: “We have a large, beautiful space here at Pratis Barns and were looking for a fun and sociable idea to bring people together in a safe way. The drive-in cinema experience is a great opportunity for a family outing, a different kind of girls’ night out, or a classic date night."

The Gilmours revamped Pratis Barns as a wedding venue after buying the Grade B-listed house, grounds and outbuildings last year through their 2G Events business.

The £35 entry tickets for Pictures @ Pratis will include a £10 money off voucher for food and drink at the event. It will offer an in-car dining menu including woodfired pizzas from Fallones and dishes prepared by Patrick, a chef who is also Scottish Wedding Caterer of the Year. Coffee and cakes will be provided by the team from Defender Blender.

The outdoor cinema will use a 10m x 5m LED screen and the soundtrack will be played through cars’ FM stereo systems.

Films begin showing at 5pm August 28 with Pixar classic Up , followed by  Dirty Dancing  at 9pm. Saturday’s bill will feature  Despicable Me  at noon,  The Greatest Showman  at 4pm and  Rocketman  at 9pm. On Sunday,  Toy Story  will be shown at noon,  Grease  at 4pm and the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga version of the hit  A Star is Born  at 9pm.
