Closed bar in Nottingham's Lace Market is set to re-open

A bar in Nottingham's historic Lace Market is set to re-open after standing empty for nine months. The grade II listed building has been home to three very different bars in the space of two years.

First it became The Loom, a cocktail bar and restaurant with a giant moose on display, then the Curious Townhouse with all kinds of quirky artefacts around the place such a Big Friendly Giant head over the pool table.

There was talk of a South American taco bar at one stage but nothing came of that.

More recently it was the Lacemakers' Arms. The dimly-lit inn, with straw on the floor harked back to an era when the area was alive with lacemaking factories and took inspiration from 19th century alehouses.

Since it closed down in September, the premises have been on the market. But it was revealed this week by commercial property consultants FHP that a deal has been completed with an "experienced local operator."

The latest reincarnation is still under wraps but an announcement is expected before too long. The large-scale property is actually two buildings put together, with an 18th-century town house frontage and a lace warehouse at the back, which was running until the 1960s.

Until it changed into a bar, the building provided office space for creative businesses, in the heart of the Creative Quarter and was home to Nottingham's Museum of Lace.
