Close to the Wind is about a boy named Malik, who lives with his grandpa, Salvatore Bartholomew. There have been some problems in the county that they live in so they decided to catch a ship out of the country. However the tickets are too expensive for both of them to leave and Malik is forced to leave without his family, and to go and live with a different family.
Unfortunately, Malik does not feel settled in the new atmosphere and is desperate to live with ‘Papa’ and ‘Mama’. With the help of his new ‘mum’ can he accomplish this wish?
I really enjoyed this book because Jon Walter has created a very interesting plot. He describes it in a lot of detail, which keeps the reader hooked into the story. Also, he builds a huge amount of tension, which makes the reader carry on reading from line one.
I recommend this book to 11 year olds and over as it is a very suspense building story, with a lot of action and dramatic happenings, which really allows the reader to feel as though they are witnessing the plot.
