Clontarf GAA launch appeal against building of 650 apartments beside St Anne's Park

Clontarf GAA have launched an appeal against the building of 650 apartments on lands neighbouring their pitches in St Anne's Park.

The development of the complex, sold by the Venetians to developers in 2015, already drew protests from local residents last year.

A decision on the plan is set to be made next February, according to the Herald.

Clontarf claim they have been badly hit by the decision to sell the playing pitches at St Paul's College four years ago.

The club boast over 2000 members, including 1400 juvenile players, and are the home club for current Dublin inter-county stars Jack McCaffrey, Paddy Smyth, Siobhan Killeen, and Niamh Hetherton.

The proposed development would see Clontarf permanently lose out on five pitches, and the club say and say they are "desperately short of playing facilities".

Residents opposing the plan also want to keep the area green as it is an important breeding ground for light-bellied brent geese.
