Clongriffin joins other Dublin areas in setting up 'little libraries' to spark community spirit.

A neighbourhood in Clongriffin has become the latest area to provide a 'little library' for its residents.

The inspiring initiative has spread over Dublin in recent months.

The idea is that children bring one of their books to the little library, to give someone else a chance to read it while they can pick out a book for themselves.

Over the weekend, the newest little library in Clongriffin officially opened for business.

It is located on the Grange Abbey Road and has received a very positive reaction from residents.

Balally resident Eithne Seery came up with the brilliant idea over lockdown.

She told Dublin Live: "You bring a book and you take a book. You can use the book for as long as you want and then you bring it back and somebody else gets the opportunity to read it.

"I hope it's going to become a real part of the community," Eithne said.

A local community page announced the opening, saying: "Thank you to the residents who set this up.

"Our Little Neighbourhood Library on Grange Abbey Road is now open.

"If you see something you would like to read, take it! It's for you.

"When you're finished, share it with a friend or bring it back here.

"Your books are also very welcome."

The community page is hoping that the library will "connect" the neighbourhood.

"We hope that this library will bring a little more joy, a little more connection and a whole lot more books to our community."

Locals are already hailing the initiative as a great success.

One resident said: "Thank you to our neighbours. My kids have used it a few times already."

Another commented: "Our girls took two last week. Such a great idea, they were so happy.

The little libraries have been popping up in neighbourhoods all over the capital in recent months.

In June, Balally added two of the libraries to their area, one for children and one for adults.
