Clodagh Hawe's family thank Irish public for support and are 'delighted' with progress of serious case review

The family of tragic Clodagh Hawe who was murdered by her husband along with her three sons have thanked Irish people for their support.

Evil killer Alan Hawe brutally murdered his wife Clodagh and their three sons, Liam, Niall and Ryan in August 2016.

Clodagh's mother Mary Coll and sister Jacqueline Connolly spoke about the case on RTE in February.

The family released a statement today to the Claire Byrne Live RTE television show to thank the Irish people.

The statement read: "As the Claire Byrne Live programme comes to a close this season, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Claire Byrne, Jane Murphy (Producer) and all of the team for all of their support, empathy and kindness.

"Most of all we are thankful for the respectful way that our interview for 'Her Name is Clodagh' was conducted.

"Since our interview ‪on the 25th February‬, we have been overwhelmed by the support of the nation and our local community and to those who have contacted us we would like to express our gratitude as it has given us the courage to speak out about Clodagh, Liam, Niall and Ryan and the events which led to their deaths.

"We are delighted with the progress that is being made through the Serious Case Review, sanctioned by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and we hope to have answers by its conclusion.

"
Lastly, we would like to give our sincere thanks to Minister Charles Flanagan, Department of Justice for the way in which he has listened and respected us and our loss by way of constant communication with us and for commissioning an independent specialist research study to review the provision of State services and supports to families who are victims of familicide and to look at international best practice in the conduct of Domestic Homicide Reviews."

Claire Byrne Live is on tonight at 10.35pm on RTE One.
