Clippings service to be switched off

The clippings service which allows you to save links to selected articles and comments will be switched off on 13th June.

This means that you will no longer be able to use the clip icon on articles or the clip link on comments to add new bookmarks to your clippings page. We will preserve existing clippings for six weeks after the service is switched off and you can save your clippings locally using the 'Webfeed' link on your clippings page.

It's never an easy decision to switch something off and we have not taken this step lightly. Whilst clippings have been a useful feature for a core group of people, it has not grown with our site and is not big enough for us to be able to continue supporting it in its current form.

We are working on developing a new improved version of the service, although this is still in the early stages. If you have any suggestions for features you'd like to see please tell us about them in the comments below and we will feed them into the designs.

Update:
To make it easier for you to save your clippings we have removed the pagination. You can now save all your clippings in one page using File, Save Page in the browser menu.

Update 2:
I'd like to highlight JohnMPerry's comment below which describes an alternative way to save your clippings in Excel.

Thanks JohnMPerry for the suggestion.
