Clippers waive forward Jordan Hamilton

Aug. 01--The Clippers waived small forward Jordan Hamilton on Saturday, creating flexibility by opening a spot on their roster. They previously had been at the NBA maximum of 15 players.

Hamilton appeared in 14 games with the Clippers last season, making two starts and averaging 2.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 8.7 minutes per game after joining the team in late February.

Coach Doc Rivers had praised Hamilton's offensive potential but acknowledged concerns about whether the 24-year-old could play the kind of defense that would make him a rotation player.

The Clippers are particularly deep at Hamilton's position with Paul Pierce, Lance Stephenson and Wesley Johnson all having joined the team this summer. The Clippers could sign another player or leave the spot open in case they preferred to make a move after the season starts.

Hamilton, a former Compton Dominguez High player who also played at Texas, has averaged 5.5 points and 2.6 rebounds on 40.5% shooting in 140 career NBA games with the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and Clippers.
