Clippers sign rookie Diamond Stone to a contract

LOS ANGELES _ The Los Angeles Clippers announced Thursday that they have signed rookie Diamond Stone to a contract.

Stone has a two-year deal that's guaranteed, with a starting salary of about $543,000.

Stone, selected in the second round (40th overall) by the Clippers, averaged 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds in five games during the summer league in Orlando, Fla., earlier this month.

The 6-foot-11, 255-pound center averaged 12.5 points and 5.4 rebounds last season at Maryland.

The Clippers didn't sign rookie David Michineau because the team is mulling over what course to take with the point guard.

The Clippers are considering sending him back to Europe _ Michineau played in France last season _ or having him play in the NBA's Development League this season.

Michineau averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 assists in the summer league for the Clippers.
