A viral clip has shown a red carpet attendant warning photographers to “be nice” to Chappell Roan moments before she appeared at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.
The pop star attended the event, held at Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, to officially induct fellow musician Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but she might just have abandoned the whole thing were it not for a protective diva working on the red carpet.
“OK, Chappell’s coming,” the woman says to photographers in the clip. “No one yell at her or she’ll leave.”
A few photographers can be heard laughing as the woman, who looks to be in charge of wrangling the press at the event, warns them to “be quiet, be nice… smiley”.
The warning was presumably a result of Roan’s previous fiery run-ins with the press on the red carpet. At the 2024 MTV VMAs, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer got into it with a photographer, telling him to “shut the fuck up” and warning him, “not me, bitch”.
A month later, she again confronted the same photographer while attending Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour premiere, accusing him of being “so disrespectful to me” and demanding him to apologise.
Thankfully for this event, Roan’s red carpet strut went off without a hitch (or any yelling), with the singer dazzling in a look inspired by Lauper’s music video for her iconic song, “True Colours”.
“Tonight we honour a woman who redefined what a pop star could look like,” Roan said while inducting Lauper. “A music legend whose authenticity has inspired us for the last four decades.”
Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Elton John and Raye were also present at the star-studded event, which, thanks to a mindful red carpet diva, will hopefully set a precedent to stop aggressive photographers.
