NEW YORK _ Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump canceled campaign events Friday, citing the Dallas sniper killings of five police officers.
Clinton's campaign said it would reschedule the stop she had planned with Vice President Joe Biden in Scranton, Pa. Clinton is also postponing a fundraiser she had planned to hold in that city, said a campaign official who asked not to be named. She still plans to speak at a church convention in Philadelphia on Friday, the official said.
Trump had been set to travel to Miami for an afternoon speech. Earlier, the Republican said on Twitter, "Prayers and condolences to all of the families who are so thoroughly devastated by the horrors we are all watching take place in our country."
President Barack Obama, in Warsaw for a NATO summit, on Friday decried the "vicious, calculated and despicable attack on law enforcement." The president said there was "no possible justification for these kind of attacks."
Obama also said Americans would have to consider the realities that came with the availability of "powerful weapons," a nod to his standing desire for additional gun controls.
